Vintage 1930s Leather Writing Wallet Folder Containing WW2 Letters Telegrams & Photos
Here we offer for sale a Vintage mock Croc leather writing wallet with real treasure inside!
This zip up writing wallet is in stunning condition considering the calendar inside is dated 1939!
Still has two King George IV unused postal stamps and a pad of Elite Civic Bond writing paper, but, the real treasure in this folder are the many letters, telegrams and photos dating back to 1943 and written by a serviceman (Bernard) to his sister (Avis) from India. There is even a letter mentioning him buying Avis some silk stockings for Christmas as he knows she can't get them in England. He calls Avis 'kid' which took me back to all the old wartime movies I watched as a child. There is also other items of family ephemera such as, headed paper from Avis's hairdressing business, next door to this their father ran a funeral business, there is a press clipping about another sister (Gladys) that took her brothers place in the business during the War.
Absolutely lovely, interesting lot of memorabilia from people of the past, showing a little glimpse into their world in a different time and place.
Please note that some of the letters are telegrams and the writing is tiny and hard to decipher without a magnifying glass.
